About Laura

Born and raised in Burbank, California, Laura Richwood grew up in an artistically nurturing home filled with encouragement and creativity. A self-taught professional artist for over 40 years, Laura’s work spans several disciplines and media. She began drawing at a young age and quickly developed a love of portraiture which naturally led her into realism.

Over the years, her growth and development as an artist and as a woman has broadened her style so that it is no longer encumbered by the rules of “photo” realism or indeed, any rules at all.

She describes her work as a spectrum of representational imagery because her paintings often use realistic imagery to express abstract ideas such as grief, childhood, motherhood, and transformation.

Laura lives in San Diego, CA, where she paints and shows her work regularly.
